The children held stuffed animal “pets” and prayed with Father Murphy as he blessed them, their teachers and their stuffed animals. Father Murphy then explained that animals are another of God’s gifts in the world, and by loving and respecting animals, we are showing that we value God’s gifts and all of his creatures.
When Father Murphy asked the children if they had any questions, one student asked “Where is God right now?” Father Murphy’s response was that “God is everywhere. He is all around us. In Heaven and here on Earth, and especially in your heart.”
The “Blessing of the Animals” at Greenwich Catholic School is a long-standing tradition celebrated each year on St. Francis’ Feast Day, October 4th.
